There aren’t many people that would like a new kitchen but have delayed remodelling because of limits to your budget. But if the day has finally come where you are ready to remodel your kitchen then you shouldn’t rush into it or do it on the cheap without factoring in all of the aspects that you want to include in your new kitchen. We have put together a guide of kitchen remodelling do’s and don’ts if you haven’t done this before. Take a look at our guide to find some top tips on how you can get the perfect kitchen for your home.
Do – Carefully Consider Your Space
When you are thinking about a kitchen remodel one of the first things that you will have to consider is how you are going to use the space. If you are remodelling then you don’t have to follow the same kitchen design as before and you can make the best use out of the room. For example, you might want less storage space but to include an island in your kitchen. This can be used not only for storage but you can also use this as a breakfast bar or space for eating. You will need to think about how much space you have in the kitchen and what you want to actually do with it.
Don’t – Go Cheap On the Budget
It is important that you don’t cut corners when it comes to the budget, despite how tempting it might be. The average kitchen remodels costs thousands so it is important that you have factored in everything when it comes to budgeting. When putting together your ideas for a kitchen remodel, it can be a good idea to put together two lists, a wish list and an essential list. This way you will have a good idea of exactly how much you need to spend on a new kitchen and how much the extras will cost. Make sure you think about everything that you might need and this also includes any appliances that you might need to buy too.
Do – Think About Appliances
One of the biggest areas that people forget to factor into their plans when thinking about kitchen remodelling is factoring in enough budget for new kitchen appliances. If you’re spending thousands of pounds on a new kitchen then there’s no doubt that you will want to have new appliances to really finish the look. New appliances are not always factored into quotes on kitchens so make sure you know exactly what your quote includes. You should also look into exactly how much your new kitchen appliances will cost as you might be surprised. You might also be considering a new coffee machine or other accessories, so factor these in for a realistic idea on the cost.
Don’t – Forget Storage
You should also make sure that you have considered whether or not you have enough storage space in your new kitchen. It can be quite easy to get carried away with planning a nice open and spacious kitchen but forget to include enough space for all of your plates, appliances and other kitchen utensils. One way that you can make sure that you will have enough storage space is to measure the storage space that you have at the minute. Make a list of all of the items that you still want to keep in your kitchen and make sure that you have enough room for this in your new kitchen.
Do – Remember to Think About Lighting
Last but not least, don’t forget about lighting in your new kitchen as this is something that can often be missed. If your kitchen isn’t well lit and you don’t have enough natural light in your kitchen then it can ruin your space by making it feel dark and depressing. There’s no point opting for a modern kitchen with high cabinets and lots of storage space if it makes it difficult to get natural light back into your kitchen. It could be worth sacrificing your design in order to get more light into a space. Make sure that you have light by the stove, sink and over a kitchen island so that there is enough light to cook, prepare and eat food.
